ill be honest with ya this is a really good driving school im happy i took it gerry shows you how scary/serious driving is as an out of town student he was very accomodating for booking lessons and we always got in even with little notice the in class was in fun and it taught me alot about driving im a much safer driver because of this driving school now only one thing is gerry likes to take pictures of his students at work or while there driving and post them on facebook
I learned awesome driving skills and had fun doing it. You always kept me on my toes in-car and the in-class was not boring at all like I had heard from other people who took driver's ed. What I took away from that class has helped me evade 3 collisions so far due to other idiots on the road. I recommend the driving school to all my friends. Love the way you teach Gerry!
Gerry's driving school is an excellent school, one I would reccomend to all, in while in class , he shows you stuff you NEED to see, not stuff you WANT to see.. He shows and tells you driving like it is. The skills I acquired while in car with Gerry and his instructors has saved me from getting into MANY collisions because of ignorant drivers. What I really appreciated the most was how much he cared about his students, and its true, he teaches you more than just the G2 test route.. If your thinking about joining any driving school, don't look any further than here.
ThedrivingSCHOOL.ca .I emphasize school, because oddly enough, it feels nothing like being in school. The in-class portion is both entertaining and informative, Gerry's jokes are legendary, and he makes the class very tolerable. I think my favorite part of the in class is that Gerry makes it very clear that driving is not something to be taken lightly. The man knows what needs to be done to improve your abilities as a young driver, whether you choose to follow them or not is up to you. If you're going to go to driver's ed. I would recommend you do it here. They are the cheapest in town, and get you the same level of certification as anyone else, and the best parts, they teach you how to drive, and give you a very realistic viewpoint on driving. You have to understand, that they are teaching you how to share the roads with themselves as well, and they make their suggestions about how to become a good driver not only to keep you safe, but also to keep everyone else safe. Finally, my review of the in-car. I had Patrick as my instructor, amazing guy. He's really friendly, very good at breaking the ice, and knows what he is talking about when it comes to driving. The entire time I was in the car, despite where I was, how fast I was going, or what I was expected to do, I felt safe.
well Gerry it has been about 10 years since you taught me how to drive. It wasn't even the driving school yet! I believe you were stop n go at the time! I really enjoyed the learning experience, you were patient but very good at ensuring I knew the rules of the road! I can only hope that you continue to do what you are great at for many more teenagers and years to come! Thanks so much
Gerry's course pays for itself right away. As a young male driver, as soon as I provided my insurance company with the proof it needed that I had completed the course, I had already saved more money than I had paid to attend this school.
TheDrivingSchool.ca was a great learning experience combining interesting lessons with information essential for becoming a safe driver. The program is both affordable and reliable, standing behind their lessons with in-car cameras so that they can be reviewed later. The passenger-seat brake and gas pedal are also helpful, providing an extra safety precaution just in case something happens to go wrong. Furthermore, the instructors provide a safe environment for students by having awesome personalities and really making a connection with their students.
The training I did was awesome. I originally was'nt going to take a driving school. However, I felt it was a good idea to prepare me for driving "reality". Also, my first lesson with Gerry really indicated I needed to be more of a safe and responsible driver. I had a great time, and learned a lot during this course. Thank you so much! :)
dudeee passed with flying colours! no problems ever....
no re tests, no tickets, no accidents all thanks to Gerry and the crew at the Driving School they teach how how to drive right!
thanks a lot! only had to go through it once but I'd be happy to come back!
I really enjoyed my time with thedrivingschool.ca. The in class was taught in a unique way and i really liked it, I found that the class went by really fast and was far from boring. My in-car instructor helped me become a better driver. I really enjoyed being her student. I also liked how organized everything was, my lessons were planned ahead of time and she was always on time. my overall experience was awesome and i recommend thedrivingschool.ca to anyone that wants/needs driving school!
Gerry should stop making girls cry (ha-ha, just kidding), no but in all honnesty, my training was very helpful and a huge eye openner to everything conserning driving. it has made me feel much more confident and aware as a soon-to-be driver.
The drivingschool.ca was great all around. Both the in class and in car were professional and I learned a lot. I would absolutely recommend the Driving School.ca to anyone else. Even though they are cheap in price, they are definitely NOT cheap in quality of driver training. All in all, i'd give them a 6 out of 5.
Never expected driving school to be so interactive in class, personable to each student, and went above and beyond to teach about driving "in the real world" and not just text book examples.
I am a bit older then most in the class, 31, drove for 8+ years in the past, due to a large (not at fault) accident I stopped driving and had terrible anxiety even in the passenger seat, I had become so nervous and not confident I lost all want to ever drive again. Spring 2012 I realized in this day and age driving is a necessity living in the country and reluctantly signed up for driving school classes.
I explained my situation to Gerry the instructor, he focused on my down falls of confidence while kicking a lot of my bad habits as well as taking time for jokes, smiles and anything that would help my fear and anxiety on the roads..
I have seen many specialists with hopes of helping me back into the drivers seat in the past, non of them even had me take the car out of "park"
And today was the day I passed my road test, I can fully say all because of the help from Gerry and "the driving school.ca", although im still a work in progress with confidence I never thought I would be on the roads again, I owe this school a million thanks, the knowledge and confidence I gained is priceless.
Thank you so much again and again.
Karri C. ( a.k.a Kitty)
My in-car instructor was absolutely incredible. I had told him at the beginning of our in car lessons that I was pretty nervous about driving due to some collisions that had happened a few years ago, and that was why I'd waited 12 years to learn to drive. I felt very safe with him in the car guiding me through the steps I needed to learn how to be the safest driver I could be.
He made sure to explain things clearly and concisely and ensured I knew what I was doing before we moved onto the next step. He made the entire process really enjoyable.
This has been a really incredible experience. I went from thinking I'd never learn to drive in my life to wanting to do it all the time. Thanks!
thedrivingschool.ca has a much different approach to driver education than other schools. Quite simply, it is the perfect balance of fun and quality. Unlike traditional driving schools that let you text in class, drive vehicles that are pulled off the road for being unsafe, or drive while the instructor gets some shut eye, (not saying any names), thedrivingschool.ca takes a no-BS, yet fun approach to learning how to drive.
Gerry has a great team of driving instructors, including himself. As a recent graduate of his program I can honestly say that I was more than satisfied with the course. It was a lot of fun, yet I was taught very seriously to become a good driver.
Just kidding. Gerry has a pretty unique teaching style. But it's a good kind of "unique", don't worry.
I would highly recommend this school to everyone who wants to enjoy this course while still remaining serious about becoming a good, safe driver. It truly is a perfect balance of fun and quality. Oh, and I also like that thedrivingschool.ca has some sweet vehicles...no more embarrassment while you're trying to drive!
And no, Gerry isn't paying me to say this, although it would be nice.
Be careful out there!
I am so glad I enrolled myself with the Drivingschool.ca. I heard from friends about other driving schools that it was not worth the time or money. However, I am so happy with my decision! Gerry was straightforward and practical, and always explained concepts about rules of the road. He made the in class experience go by super fast and I actually enjoyed being a part of his interactive classroom. It was not just some teacher getting paid to lecture you, but a friendly figure speaking with you in a dialogue so that you could better understand the rules of the road and why they are the way they are.
I also appreciate how Gerry risked his own life to teach us a lesson about crossing the street (when we have the right of way). LOL. But seriously, we put our trust in drivers around us even when we cross the road. We should all be observant and be on guard because we can not predict the actions of other drivers.
I learned so much from my instructor. Made sure I understood the concepts and explained the steps and made sure I knew why they were important. Now I find myself critiquing other drivers, when I am driving and when I am just a pedestrian. It is scary to see how many sketchy drivers there are out there. I think the Drivingschool.ca has made me more comfortable with the road and makes me more observant of how bad some other people are when they drive.
OMG best driving school ever!!! teaches you everything you are going to need to know while driving! and best of all, best in car instructors ever!
When I first started taking driving lessons I was so clueless I didn't even know which pedal was the gas and which was the break. I took a couple of lessons and then I had a baby so I went into a hiatus for about 6 months. When I was ready to start taking lessons again Gerry was very accommodating, working around my busy schedule. He's a very patient and helpful instructor. I would recommend TheDrivingSchool.ca to anyone that really wants to learn how to drive and/or improve their skills to feel safer on the road.
Gerry - TheDrivingSchool.ca
Your drivers education course was extremely benefical and such a positive experience for me.
The instructors were very knowledgable, flexible and friendly. They were patient, supportive and easy to communicate with. They made learning fun!
The classrooms were very informative, interactive and better prepared me for driving. I learned important safety tips and valuable defensive driving skills. I think having your parents come along for the ride was very helpful and a positive experience for all of us.
Everything I learned both in the classroom and during my in-car instruction has made me a confident, safer and a responsible driver.
Going into driving school I thought it would be super boring, but Gerry made it really fun! I really liked the teaching methods and even now with my G2 I can still hear Gerry saying "spacing, big spaces..." I would most definitely recommend thedrivingschool.ca to anyone because I believe that this school really teaches you to drive responsibly and cautiously. Thanks! :)
First of all, the in-class training, while being long, and very early in the morning, was at least something I could get through. Gerry's humour and straight forward attitude with the students was something to keep everyone involved engaged. He knew the right times to joke around with the students to keep things light, and when to be serious to allow students to take the full impact of the seriousness of certain situations.
Now, for in-car training, I had tons of fun. Patrick's sense of humour and light teasing made it easier for me to accept my own mistakes and not dwell on them more than needed. With this I was able to keep calm and collected in the car, and I definitely feel a lot more confident with all of my driving skills! Patrick was also really understanding of different things such as changing pick-up locations on short notice, for which I'm incredibly thankful!!
I just want to thank Gerry and Patrick for the patience and understanding
Just a short note to say Thanks very much to you for a great experience Matt had with his driving course. Please pass along a huge Thank You to Patrick his driving instructor also. Matt learned a lot and looks forward to getting his license. We certainly appreciate
the professional and courteous service that was provided.
Scott, Dana, Matt 7 & Trav
I feel a lot more confident after going to this driving school, they make you realize and think about what you're doing wrong. I also liked how Gerry would tell me what areas I needed to improve on and it felt like he actually cared about my progress. My friends from other driving schools said it felt like their instructors just wanted them to be done. The in-class I also found interesting and kept me watching, especially the videos which actually made you think.
The driving school is the best one in town! I was very nervous about driving due to never having anyone to bring me practicing before i signed up and having my bestfriend and her family die in a car collision. The driving school really helped me gain the skills and confidence I needed to become a great driver. I never thought i'd be able to drive like this and passed my road test with ease. Gerry keeps the classes fun and his instructors really care about you and will work hard to make sure you suceed in driving and gain the skills you need to be a safe driver. Thank you so much Gerry and Kyle. I have been and will continue to recommend the driving school to anyone and everyone!
I went to the very first course ever offered by www.thedrivingschool.ca, got my G2, got my first car, got my G a year later and didn't have any problems. In November (2012) I was driving down Dawson Road, toward Mapleward going around the big corner when a truck coming from the opposite direction came into my lane, almost running me off the road. As it all happened very quickly I found it amazing that my mind flashed back to "check your rear view mirror before hitting the breaks", which when I did, there was a vehicle close behind me. I had to swerve into the ditch and back onto the road to avoid an accident (there's about 4 feet of soft shoulder out there and then a drop off) and I knew on the soft shoulder I wouldn't be able to hit the breaks either which is why I swerved back onto the road before finally slowing down and pulling over. Everything I used in that moment was things I learned in Driving School that I didn't even remember learning! It probably saved my life not only to remember not to slam on the breaks but to have the confidence to maneuver around the other vehicle and pull over when it was finally safe.
(I actually called Gerry after this happened and thanked him)
I really enjoyed the lessons. I learned a lot of things that my parents simply forgot to mention. I also became much more comfortable on the roads. In my opinion, the highway lesson was the most helpful to me, especially in terms of being comfortable with speeds and acceleration/deceleration lanes. As far as in class, there were many little bits of information that I was able to implement in my driving immediately without even beginning the in car lessons. It was also much more inter! esting t han I expected. Overall, well worth the effort, money, and time.
Personally I think Gerry is running a very successful business and I hope the best for him!
He really does his best to show all of the kids whats out there in a safe non-accident kinda way...
I will say for myself, that I enjoyed the time i had with him and I really did learn a LOT... I hope everything goes great for my road test and beyond, and I will say that I was definitely very lucky to have gone through TheDrivingSchool.ca and I'm very happy with the result has become...
Thank you soo much Gerry for all of your hard work and still wanting to put up with me even though you and my family have a pretty big past.. lol
This Driving school definitely deserves to stride and get very far when it comes to expanding and make more and more kids aware of whats going on out in the real world of Driving!! :)
Jason was AWESOME! One of the best instructors I've seen. I give a big thanks to Jason and you, Gerry, for improving my driving skills; also have picked up more skills along the way and still improving. Always room for improvement! I honestly cannot say anything bad about TheDrivingSchool. I was expecting it to be "hard-core" and I was right lol, but that is a good thing. Preparing people (mostly teens) to be safe on the road. I believe if every adolescent/young adult took this! course there would be less accidents, injuries, and even deaths. Also to push on retaking this course 20yrs or so down the road to do as a refresher. Anyways, that is all I have to say, for now lol. I wish everyone the best of luck in the future!
Take care :)
P.S Of course I will miss the air horn lol was entertaining to watch the hung over people get annoyed aha :p
I had such a great experience with this school. I came out with broad knowledge regarding rules of the road and the instructors always made me feel relaxed. They are great people to work with and I think they should keep teaching youth drivers education because Thunder Bay will have safer roads when users of the road have knowledge from The Driving School. Thanks for everything guys!
My in-car instructor was very easy to talk to and made the lessons move quickly. He was able to teach the course material in a way that was easy to understand and then apply to my driving.
Gerry was able to teach very dry long material, and still make it interesting and informative towards the class. He was able to relate to the students which made the class more interesting to them.
I enjoyed my in-car training. He was very helpful with teaching me how to drive correctly and with precaution, also he was patient with my mistakes and taught me to correct them. I definitely noticed a big difference from when I first drove in his car to the last time, I've gained a lot of knowledge since then. If you're looking for a good driving school this is the one to take!
A few words regarding your training (in-class and in-car). Be honest, it will help us become the best!
I loved the lessons! I thought I wasn't that bad of a driver but I realized I didn't know much when I started my lessons. I also realized how terrifying of a driver my Grandmother is!
The in-class lessons were actually fun and flew by! Don't get rid of the air horn cause your class won't be the same! Loved you guys and I'm sad that my time is done. See you on the road!
It's reassuring to know that when you have in-car lessons with Gerry your chances of crashing and burning decrease significantly. You are pretty much guaranteed to pass your G1 and G2 exit tests on the first try, and to top it all off he's the cheapest in town. Think of www.TheDrivingSchool.ca as the Rosetta Stone of driving schools. Sure he has a bit of an attitude, but that's a good thing when you want a no bullshit, straight to the point driving education. Plus, to top it all off he owns some pretty attractive vehicles in comparison to the competition.
TheDrivingSchool.ca is by far the best course offered in town. I have heard many horror stories about other schools in town, but not a single one about Gerry's. My in-class hours were a good experience and were not boring. Gerry really prepares you for the real world in the in-class lessons with his many videos and true stories about distracted/impaired driving. I will certainly not be missing that air horn though! There is a video floating around out there in cyberspace somewhere! The in-car lessons are a blast. I was fortunate enough to have Gerry as my instructor for those as well. He was always on time. He helped me to become a more confident driver by being funny and laid back, but also being firm and serious when necessary. Gerry was always present in the lesson and was never texting or making phone calls. Gerry really prepared me for the road and I am very thankful for that. He will review things with you if you need him to and is very patient. He will tell you how to fix and improve your mistakes and, he will not let you go as a student until he is confident you will be safe on the road and have learned the necessary skills. My in car lessons have equipped me with the skills that I need to feel more safe and comfortable on the road. I feel as if we covered almost everything there is to cover in the in-car lessons and I am a much more educated and defensive driver because of it. Gerry even took me to the gas station and taught me how to pump gas... BONUS!! I haven't heard of any other driving schools who do that. I will definitely be recommending TheDrivingSchool.ca to everyone I know. Thanks so much Gerry :)
I quickly realized that teaching my daughter to drive was going to give me a heart attack and nervous breakdown. I called Gerry. I honestly thought he would be dead with in the week. We all survived and what amazed me most is how great of a driver she turned out to be. I can ride with her and be completely relaxed, I never thought that would ever happen. Three years later I enrolled my son, I had complete trust and faith in thedrivingschool.ca. The instructors have such a great relationship with the kids, every one of them. The parents go on at least one in car lesson, its a great learning experience for both child and parent. You cant go wrong with this school!
This has to be the BEST driving school ever! I learned how to be a safe and common sense driver. I was unfortunately at "Young driver's" Big mistake! because all my instructor would do is bring me down and make me hate driving. So one day I talked to one of my friend shanty about driving school's and she recommended "thedrivingschool" big difference because I never fell asleep in his class especially with the annoying air horn. Gerry contacted me personally himself to explain about his school and I was immediately interested. I signed up for his next course and now I'm certified as a safer driver and I'm feeling quite accomplished. Thanks so much Gerry! this driving school rocks because you built it from the bottom up.
Drivers training was honestly the hardest thing I've ever done. I put off going for my beginners license for quite some time. As time went on, the anxiety and fear towards driving grew. Many young people were dying in car accidents and it terrified me. Finally I got the courage to take driving school and go for my G2 and it was the best decision ever.
The in class lessons were very engaging and educational. It makes you take driving more seriously. They make you think about scenarios one would never consider as well as make you prepared for the in car lessons. Also the air horn keeps you alert!! haha
The in car lessons were extremely challenging and emotional for me (to say the least). Gerry gives you a tough love approach but it is exactly what new drivers need.
He sets high standards for his students so that they can all be exceptional new drivers and ace the G2 road test (which I learned has very LOW standards). When I passed my G2 after I failed my evaluation I felt GUILTY!! Guilty because Gerry sets high standards and makes you want to be the best defensive driver you can be. I knew I made mistakes on my G2, mistakes Gerry would not have let slip, but I got my license anyways. Because of this I was able to head out on my own and practice even more on the things I knew needed work.
I know people say "Gerry makes girls cry" and I never thought I would be one of them. On my second in car lesson it was a horrible winter day and the roads were pure ice. He used this to my advantage and had me practice my winter driving. I kept sliding all over the road then finally broke down crying. Not because of Gerry but because I was scared and frustrated. We pulled over, he calmed me down and talked me through it. It was after that lesson that I realized how challenging driving school was actually going to be.
Gerry never let me quit and always believed that I can do better. He genuinely cares about the well being and success of his students. Hes not just a driving instructor, but a friend. I highly recommend everyone go to thedrivingschool.ca to get their drivers training. If not for Gerry I would have probably never gone for my G2 and definitely would not have passed it without his exceptional training. He gave me a new outlook on life, an amazing experience and my freedom. For that I am forever grateful.
One of my friends went to TheDrivingSchool. I think that it should be a requirement of all new drivers to have to attend a driving school. It helps the potential driver to understand the responsibility that they are endeavoring to get. Personally, I think that people that don't attend a driving school are usually worse drivers (although I admit I don't have any data with which to back that up).
We've had 3 of our children become successful drivers now- and all 3 took their driving instruction from theDrivingSchool.ca ! Thanks for all the excellent in-class and practical instruction. I'll greatly recommend Gerri's school to anyone asking us.
My friends went to other school but I still chose to stay and yeah I never regret coz I learned a lot, never a dull moment in class ( just watch out for that horn:( ) looking forward to my in car lesson. Cheers!!!
TheDrivingSchool.ca, not your typical driving school?
