your course will then become void and null. Remember that the course needs to be completed within one year of the first day of class (including home link). N.S.F. or returned cheque charge: $25.00
If you miss the first day of in-class, you forfeit your seat and you will need to sign up for a future course that has available seats. At this time, there will be an administrative fee of $50.00 + HST. If the office needs to make a refund, the refund will be at the rate of $30.00 per hourly session including taxes. This will be at the discretion of the office.

IN-CLASS: (20 hours)

You are required to attend the complete 20 hours of classroom instruction. NO EXCEPTIONS!  If for some reason you do miss class time or come late, it is up to you to call and make arrangements to make up the missed times.  The school will charge an administration fee of $25.00 per session in this instance. (Total of 8 sessions: 2 per day)  Understand that classes are running full and you might have to wait longer than expected to finish up your missed class time.

YOU CANNOT COME TO CLASS LATE. If you do, you will be required to attend a full session and you will be responsible for the administration fee.

You will be required to complete two multiple-choice tests during your course.  In order to successfully pass the course, you must score at least 70%.  If this is not accomplished, you will be required to write a make-up test. Please read your driver’s handbook prior to the course.  If you do not achieve the required pass rate, you will have to re-write a test and there will be an administration fee of $40.00.

You are required to read and bring an updated copy of the Driver’s Hand Book to the classroom (2012 or newer).

It is also recommended that you come prepared to take notes. (pen and paper)

PLEASE NOTE:  ALL CELL PHONES WILL BE COLLECTED AT THE START OF THE IN-CLASS.
If for some reason you decide to keep your phone and you are caught using it in the class, you will be asked to leave and make up that session at your expense!
(This will be strictly enforced!)
You may give the school’s phone number for emergencies during the course: 629-7867

HOME LINK: (10 hours)

You will receive your home link exercise booklet during your in-class session.
Your homework is due to qualify for the certificate. If you homework booklet is not handed in during the in car lessons, you must follow the instructions on the website under the STUDENTS PAGE tab for the steps to hand in your homework. (Must be handed in on the first in-car lesson)

License:

The student must bring his/her licence to the first day of classroom so that it can be photocopied.

IN-CAR CAMERA: SD MEMORY CARD REQUIRED FOR EVERY IN-CAR LESSONS:

There is an in-car camera to record the lessons.  Students are required to bring a SD Memory card to EVERY in-car lesson.  If they lose, damage or forget to bring the card to an in car lesson, they will be responsible for the cost of purchasing one from their in-car instructor.

IN-CAR: (10 hours)

You will spend a minimum of 10 hours driving (10 hours is included in the course cost). The in-car training will be provided by a licensed instructor in a vehicle with a dual brake control.  Practice at home is a vital component of your training. You must successfully complete the requirements of the in-vehicle training before qualifying for a certificate. Additional lessons are at the rate of $55 (including hst) for a one hour lesson.

-  The completion of the in-car training must end no more than 1 year from the start of the classroom training. If this is not accomplished, the course will be void and null.
THIS IS AN MTO REGULATION.

- You must start and allow at least 20 weeks to complete the in-car training.  Any less time remaining in the year will result in having to take the in-class again at the student’s expense ($100.00 plus hst) plus you will need to pay for the lessons used up to that point if you did start your in-car training.

- To take advantage of the time reduction (1 year to 8 months), you must complete the course prior to scheduling your road test.  Every effort will be made to accommodate the road test date; however, the school will not rush a student through training just for this reason. We will not book more than one lesson every 10 to 14 days.

-Day time lessons might have to happen (during school times). If you are under the age of 18 and you need to perform day time lessons, please print up the day time sheet (found under the STUDENT PAGE tab). We do require this form signed prior to the day time lesson so please bring it to the lesson prior to you your day time lesson.
We do not require a day time lesson for one of the two lessons that might be performed during the school time. Those will be a highway trip (1.5 hours in length) and the evaluation (1 hour in length). The highway trip will be preformed during the day or the weekend in the fall / winter seeing that performing a highway trip at dusk is very dangerous due to animals.

No-show fees:  If you are unable to keep your scheduled driving appointment time, you must give the school a minimum of 24 hrs notice in order to avoid a fee.  If less than 24 hours of notice is given, you will be charged a $40.00 including HST hourly cancellation/no show fee ($40 is the less that we will charge) Example: 1 hour or less=$40.00  & 1.5 hours = $60.00.
I a student has two no shows are late cancellation, all lessons will be cancelled until the fees are paid.

Also, we do not pick up students on the outskirts of the city. We will make arrangements to perform lessons after school or on weekends for these students. Please call Gerry directly if you have any questions or concerns regarding this policy. We can pick up up on the outskirts of town, but there will be a pick up and drop off fee. You can speak to your in-car instructor regarding this.

Please turn off your cell phone prior to your in-vehicle training. If your phone rings or vibrates or makes any noises during an in-vehicle lesson, you must make a $5.00 donation to MADD Canada each time.

The cost of your course does not include the use of a car for your road test. If you require a car for your road test, it is important that you inform the instructor during your in-car lessons so he/she can schedule accordingly.

ALCOHOL AND DRUGS:

Please understand that TheDrivingSchool.ca takes a very strict approach when it comes to being under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs and driving.  As a G1 or G2 driver, your blood alcohol level must be ZERO!!!

Driving under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol is a Criminal Code Offence.

ALCOHOL: Students and parents need to understand that alcohol takes up to 24 hours to filter out of the body and to attain a ZERO blood alcohol level.  As a parent of a 16 year old, you need to take responsibility and ensure the student does not go out and drink the night before their lessons.

DRUGS: Unfortunately, students often have easy access to drugs such as marijuana. Students often don't understand the consequences of driving under the influence of marijuana and other drugs. Don't forget, there are also some prescription medications that can impair driving - be sure to check the label.

If any in-car instructor suspects that a student is impaired by alcohol or drugs, they will be asked a series of questions. If we feel there is a risk, we will then cancel the lesson and the student will be responsible for the cost.

Remember that a lesson can be cancelled at NO CHARGE if you contact the instructor with 24 hours notice.
